Whether you are a believer in Jesus Christ and looking for good resources to share the gospel with others or if you are not a believer and have never heard the good news of Jesus Christ, below is a short explanation of the Gospel. God – Who He Is
There is a God who deserves to be glorified.
“The God who made the world and all things in it… is Lord of heaven and earth… He Himself gives to all people life and breath and all things; and He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth… that they would seek God” (Acts 17:24-27)
The Bible explains that God created us and sustains us and therefore has absolute authority over our lives. He made us in His image so that we would seek to know Him and glorify Him with our lives (i.e., love Him, honor Him, obey Him, and serve Him).
Man – Our Problem
Man refuses to glorify God and deserves to be punished.
“The Lord has looked down from heaven upon the sons of men to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God… There is none who understands, there is none who seeks for God… for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God… the wages of sin is death” (Ps. 14:2, Rom. 3:11, 23; 6:23)
Instead of seeking to know and glorify God, we naturally rebel against His authority over us and choose to live our own way. The Bible says that failing to honor and obey God is sin. The just penalty for our sin is death–not just physical death, but eternal separation from God in hell.
Jesus – God’s Solution
Jesus Christ died and rose from the dead so that we can be saved.
“God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him… the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me” (Rom. 5:8-9, Gal. 2:20)
Because of His great love, God has provided a way for us to be rescued from hell. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross to pay the penalty for our sin. Jesus endured the punishment that we deserve and rose again to prove that God’s justice had been served, making it possible for Him to forgive us and offer us eternal life. That life begins now, through a loving dependence on God that produces obedience and righteousness in us.
You – The Response
The command to repent and believe in Jesus Christ must be obeyed.
“He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him” (John 3:36)
God requires us to turn from our sinful rebellion against Him and trust in the death and resurrection of His Son as the only way to be reconciled to Him. We must humbly admit we are sinners, believe in the person and work of Jesus Christ, and commit to follow Him.
